Dylan Mulvaney's Cottage Core House Reveal

Creating a Colorful Cottage Core Haven for Dylan Mulvaney


Designing a space where miss Dylan Mulvaney can relax and truly be herself was an incredible honor. I met Dylan the night before she started Days of Girlhood and it's been such a wild and exciting journey to see her grow and be adored by millions of people around the world for the sweet, kind, and joyous human she is. It's also come with a lot of harsh criticism from all sides during such a vulnerable time in her life. I really wanted her home to be a safe space that celebrates the amazing person she is. Collaborating with friends and clients like Dylan to create beautiful, colorful spaces bring me so much happiness. I always try to capture my client's essence in the design. My goal was to transform Dylan's vision into a whimsical cottage core retreat that truly reflects her unique personality.

Designing with Dylan:
Dylan had a clear vision in mind—a "Miss Honey House" inspired by the enchanting cottage core aesthetic. We worked closely together, and she even curated a playlist that set the tone for the project. A first for me, but it really inspired me while I designed the space.

Dylan wanted a serene and calming space, which was a departure from my usual vibrant style. She even used the word "granny" often when describing the ideal feel haha. She also wanted a space that was easy to convert back when she was done since the home is a rental. Which meant not as much paint or renovations as I normally go. Embracing the challenge, we struck a balance with subtle touches of color and a light, airy feel throughout. Infusing the cottage core charm into every detail, we created a dreamy atmosphere with soft pastel hues, floral patterns, vintage-inspired furniture, and whimsical decor. I feel like the color compromise paid off in creating a tranquil environment and allows for easy conversion when Dylan decides to move.

Designing a bathroom and kitchen in a rental is never easy because you’re kinda stuck with what you’ve got surface.cabinet wise. But I was determined to give Dylan the Eloise at The Plaza bathroom of her dreams and create a cute retro inspired kitchen! I found these peel and stick tiles and WOW did they work wonders (linked at bottom of post). I love that it also incorporates the grey that we had to keep in other parts of the bathroom and really made it all work together. For the kitchen this peel and stick wallpaper was a game changer. We were also able to create a kitchen nook using these cool modular booth pieces I found (linked at bottom). Which is great because we ended up making her dining room into an office so she can have a dedicated guest/storage room.

Designing for Dylan Mulvaney was a super special experience. We created a colorful cottage core haven where she can truly be herself. Overcoming rental limitations and embracing a serene aesthetic, we captured Dylan's essence. I'm immensely proud of the final result and grateful for the opportunity to work with such a delightful client. Cheers to the beautiful spaces we create together!
